Newbery Medal Winner

Jacob Have I Loved

by Katherine Paterson

Summary

On a small island in the Chesapeake Bay, Sara Louise Bradshaw, known as Wheeze, feels overshadowed her whole life by her seemingly favored and more delicate twin sister Caroline. Consumed by jealousy and a longing to find her own place, Louise slowly works toward independence and a life of her own choosing. Paterson explores sibling rivalry, identity, and self worth in a novel whose title echoes the Biblical story of Jacob and Esau.

Historical Context & Significance
