Summary

Clare Vanderpool sends twelve year old Abilene Tucker to the town of Manifest, Kansas, in 1936, where her father once lived and where she hopes to uncover his past. Following a trail of old letters and a spy hunt, Abilene pieces together stories that reach back to the town during the First World War. The novel braids two time periods into a tale of community, memory, and belonging during hard times.
