Summary

This sequel to Parable of the Sower continues the story of Lauren Olamina and the Earthseed faith she founded amid a collapsing United States. A demagogue rises to power on a promise to make America great again, and his followers brutally attack Lauren's community, separating her from her child as she fights to keep her movement alive. Told partly through her daughter's bitter retrospective, the book confronts religious extremism, authoritarianism, slavery, and survival.

Historical Context & Significance

Parable of the Talents won the Nebula Award for Best Novel and was the second book in Butler's unfinished Earthseed series.
