The Devil Takes You Home

by Gabino Iglesias

Summary

After his young daughter falls ill and his marriage collapses, a desperate man named Mario turns to contract killing and then signs on for a cartel heist meant to solve all his problems. The road trip across the borderlands turns into a nightmare laced with supernatural dread, brujería, and the violence of the drug trade. Iglesias writes a bloody, grief soaked barrio noir that mixes English and Spanish and treats poverty and loss as their own kind of horror.
